Re: Pay Increase & Stipend
Background:
Both Tim O’Neill & Nick Bancks have completed their EMT certification. The employee policy says that they
will receive a $1 wage increase and a $100 stipend for completing the class. Both Nick and Tim are currently
paid $12.33/hr and need to be increased to $13.33/hr, This is the top wage unless they become an officer.
Ben Horner was hired 12/01/2020 and has completed his probation per the personnel policy, He should have a
pay increase to $11.33 plus $1 for the fact that he is already certified as a paramedic. This will move his pay
rate from $10.33 to $12.33 effective 12/01/2021.
Jeff Firkus, Matthew O’Brien and Mark Fitzgerald have passed there EMT certification. They are still in their
probationary period, but are entitled to a $100 stipend for completing their certification.
Issue:
Should the city approve a pay increase and/or stipend for Tim O’Neill, Nick Bancks, Ben Horner, Jeff Firkus,
Matthew O’Brien and Mark Fitzgerald?
Proposal Details:
Increase the hourly pay rate for Tim O’Neill & Nick Banks from $12.33 to $13.33 and pay a $100 stipend to
each of them.
Increase Ben Horner’s hourly wage from $10.33 to $12.33.
Pay the $100 stipend to Jeff Firkus, Matthew O’Brien and Mark Fitzgerald.
Fiscal Impact:
This amount was included in the fire department operating budget.
Options:
(1) Approve pay increase and stipend as laid out above.
(2) Deny part or all of the pay increase
(3) Do nothing
Recommendation:
Option (1).
