06.i Staff Report Fire Dept Pay Increases and Stipends Staff Report Date of Meeting: March 15th 2022 To: City Council From: Mike Hinz, Fire Chief Re: Pay Increase & Stipend Background: Both Tim O’Neill & Nick Bancks have completed their EMT certification. The employee policy says that they will receive a $1 wage increase and a $100 stipend for completing the class. Both Nick and Tim are currently paid $12.33/hr and need to be increased to $13.33/hr, This is the top wage unless they become an officer. Ben Horner was hired 12/01/2020 and has completed his probation per the personnel policy, He should have a pay increase to $11.33 plus $1 for the fact that he is already certified as a paramedic. This will move his pay rate from $10.33 to $12.33 effective 12/01/2021. Jeff Firkus, Matthew O’Brien and Mark Fitzgerald have passed there EMT certification. They are still in their probationary period, but are entitled to a $100 stipend for completing their certification. Issue: Should the city approve a pay increase and/or stipend for Tim O’Neill, Nick Bancks, Ben Horner, Jeff Firkus, Matthew O’Brien and Mark Fitzgerald? Proposal Details: Increase the hourly pay rate for Tim O’Neill & Nick Banks from $12.33 to $13.33 and pay a $100 stipend to each of them. Increase Ben Horner’s hourly wage from $10.33 to $12.33. Pay the $100 stipend to Jeff Firkus, Matthew O’Brien and Mark Fitzgerald. Fiscal Impact: This amount was included in the fire department operating budget. Options: (1) Approve pay increase and stipend as laid out above. (2) Deny part or all of the pay increase (3) Do nothing Recommendation: Option (1).
