RE: Solar Project Development
Dear Ms. Eklund,
RE=CEIVED
APR 2 6 2016
CITY OF SCANDIA
We are writing to introduce ourselves and to inform you of a solar energy project called Argo Navis
Community Solar Gardens, which we are developing, on behalf of BHE Renewables, near your property.
About Argo Navis Community Solar Gardens
Argo Navis Community Solar Gardens (Argo Navis or the Project) is a proposed Community Solar Garden
facility located in the City of Scandia, near the intersection of Scandia Trail N and St. Croix Trail (see
enclosed map). Similar to a newly constructed home or business, Argo Navis is proposed to interconnect
directly to the local distribution system and does not require transmission facilities. The Project is
expected to be comprised of up to three individual one megawatt (MW) ground -mount solar gardens.
Depending upon the Project's final size, it will generate enough energy to power up to approximately
600 homes annually and decrease carbon dioxide emissions by 3,635 metric tons annually — the
equivalent of removing 765 cars from the road each year.
At this time, the design for the Project's layout, access roads and electrical connections have not been
finalized. The enclosed map identifies the proposed location and layout for Argo Navis, as well as the
project boundary. For your reference, we have also included photographs of solar farms that utilize
technology similar to what is being proposed for the Project. Argo Navis is proposed to be situated at
the bottom of the existing gravel mining operation. Geronimo Energy is actively working with the mine
operator during their reclamation process in order to facilitate the installation of the Project as
efficiently as possible.
In addition to the considerable environmental benefits Argo Navis will provide, the project will also
deliver significant economic benefits to the City of Scandia. These benefits include increased income to
the City in the form of tax revenue, job creation and increased local spending during both construction
and on-going operations.
About the Permit Process for Argo Navis
Geronimo Energy has begun the permitting process for the Project. Permitting is expected to last up to
three months. As such, we currently anticipate we will receive our permit for Argo Navis sometime this
summer. We plan to begin construction as early as fall 2016. Construction will likely require five to nine
months for completion. We are targeting completion of Argo Navis sometime in early 2017.
Geronimo Energy has finalized a public hearing date with the City of Scandia for the Variance and
Conditional Use Permit. The date and location of the hearing are below:
