5. Public Comments_JohnsonPublic Comments on Solar Moratorium Ordinance

I was hoping to better understand your upcoming proposal to impose a moratorium on solar farms within
Scandia. I would love to better understand the context for your concerns and what other options might be
available.
I believe building solar capacity within Washington County is of critical importance, especially given the
latest reporting on climate change: 'Delay means death': We're running out of ways to adapt to the climate
crisis, new report shows. Here are the key takeaways.
I am deeply concerned that a 12 month moratorium is a significant delay given the severity of the
climate emergency.
I'm a Marine on St Croix resident, so I recognize I am not a direct constituent of yours. However, I am a
resident of Washington County and am on Xcel's waiting list to power my home with clean energy.
Installing solar on my home might be an option in the future, but like many homes in Northern Washington
County, my lot is heavily treed and shaded. That is why building capacity for local solar farms is
essential.
I am a mother and concern for the future my child will inherit is a constant buzzing anxiety that lurks in the
background. I know many parents share my concern.
I realize your meeting is tomorrow, but I do hope someone will reach back out to me and shed light on
this disappointing and costly proposal.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and address my concerns.
Best,
Erin Johnson
