6.b) Staff Report-Signage GuidelinesSty t f ' fieporl
Date of Meeting: April 1, 2013
To: Park and Recreation Committee
From: Kristina Handt, City Administrator
Re: Signage Guidelines
Agenda Item #: 6.b)
Background:
In February, the committee reviewed signage at Scandia parks, trails and recreation facilities.
There was discussion regarding the components to include in a signage guideline program.
Issue:
What signage guidelines should the PRC recommend be adopted?
Proposal Details:
Included in your packet is a very simple set of guidelines that lists the required and optional
components discussed by the committee at the February meeting. Committee member Arnold
was going to work on suggested language regarding the size, color, form, and space between
letters. Those items are not included in this draft. Because of other obligations, Arnold has not
had the time to provide her suggestions. However, the Committee may want to consider
adopting some guidelines sooner rather than later as it is anticipated that more sign proposals
may come before the committee in the near future. The guidelines could always be changed at a
future date but at least this would give individuals and groups waiting to begin their project the
framework.
Options:
1) Recommend approval of the signage guidelines to the City Council.
2) Amend and then recommend approval of the signage guidelines to the City Council.
3) Take no action on signage guidelines at this time.
Fiscal Impact:
Many of the signs created for City park and recreation areas are donated to the City. Therefore,
there may not be a direct financial impact to the City budget.
Recommendation:
Option 1.

that end, the Committee has established the following set of guidelines which includes
