Background:
Last year the City Council approved signage for the Sand Lake Trail. The signs were paid for by
a grant received by the Friends of the Scandia Parks and Trails. Maintenance staff installed the
signs along the route last fall.
The Friends would like to have an inaugural family bike ride along the trail to bring awareness to
City residents' of the trail's completion. They are anticipating there may be at least 100
participants so a special event permit would need to be approved by the City Council. Once an
application is received, the permit approval will go on the Council agenda.
Issue:
Should the PRC recommend approval of the Sand Lake trail Bike Ride on June 1 St to the City
Council?
Proposal Details:
The ride would begin at the Lion's Shelter at approximately l Dam on Saturday, June 1 St and
travel east on Old Marine Trail. The route would be completed in a counter -clockwise direction.
See the map provided for agenda item 7.d) for bike route information. The ride would return to
the shelter where snacks and such would be available. If any PRC members are interested in
attending the ride or being at the shelter that day, we do have some flyers left over from the
Ironman event that could be distributed.
Fiscal Impact:

Options:
1) Recommend the ride as presented to the City Council
2) Require changes of the ride, then recommend to the City Council
3) Do not approve Sand Lake Trail Bike Ride on June 1St
