5.b)1) Staff Report-City Council MeetingsSAND:. 1 Staff Reprrrt Date of Meeting: July 1, 2013 To: Park and Recreation Committee From: Kristina Handt, City Administrator Re: City Council Meetings Agenda Item #: 5.b}1 i Summary of June City Council Meetings: June 11 Work Session: The City Council used their June work session to begin work on the 2014-2018 Capital Improvement Plan. • The PRC had recommended that Lilleskogen remain in the CIP for 2014 at an amount of $47,500. The Council questions what specifically the PRC planned to use the funds for. Given that there is only about $8,000 in the Park Capital Improvement Fund, the funding sources was changed to grants/donations. • The PRC discussed the possibility of needing to do work at Wind in the Pines if there were unsafe conditions. Maintenance Supt Kieffer walked the trails and corrected all safety hazards so the Natural Resource Management Plan ($10,000) was pushed back to 2015. • The Lighted Ball Field Improvements -Infield Drainage was moved to pending status • The PRC recommended the sidewalk from the Community Center south to the ball field be completed in 2014 and that the sidewalk from the Lighted Ball field to Olinda Lane be pushed back. The Council moved both projects to pending status. • The PRC recommended reconstruction of the tennis courts in 2018. The Council added this project to the 2014-2018 CIP. June 18 Council Meeting: The PRC had three recommendations on the June Council Agenda: 1) Bike Map Signage at Lion's Shelter was approved 2) Amended Lighted Ball Field Agreement was approved 3) Bid from Surface Pro for tennis court resurfacing was approved. Additionally, Council Member Swanson asked Supt Kieffer to provide the PRC with information following any inspections of playground equipment. Staff completed an inspection last month and there were no new safety issues. Staff will continue to address park maintenance issues and bring any concerns or expenses that exceed the budget to the committee's attention when needed. We have received the site survey from Landmark Surveying for Lilleskogen.
