Background:
During the discussion of PRC promotions at the Ironman event in April, the committee noted that it
would be good to have something other than paper to use to promote the area.
Issue:
How should the PRC promote the parks and recreational facilities and programs in Scandia?
Proposal Details:
One suggestion would be for the committee to create a video promoting the parks and recreational
facilities in Scandia. The video could be shown at events such as the Ironman Bike Ride and Vinterfest
and could also be made available on the City's website and facebook page.
Committee members would be responsible for writing up a brief (2-3 minutes) script for the location or
program of their choice. This could include places like Lilleskogen, Log House Landing, Wind in the
Pines, Hay Lake Shelter, Lighted Ball field, Swedish Monument, Warming House and Rink, other ball
fields, farmers market, lakes/boat landings or discussion about our summer or winter rec programs or
Vinterfest.
One committee member may also want to act as the host of the program and help transition from one
location to another.
The next step would be for the committee to obtain the services of an organization or individual to film,
edit and produce the video. Lakes Area TV is available to do this as they receive PEG fees from the
City's Cable Franchise with Midcontinent. Alternatively, local residents such as Jeni O'Brien have
experience in this area. If any committee members have additional suggestions, please share.

Fiscal Impact:
There were no funds budgeted for this purpose. The committee would either need to seek pro bono video
services, seek additional funding sources or reallocate funds within the 2013 budget.
