Staff in attendance: Treasurer Colleen Firkus. Also attending Mayor Christine Maefsky.
Call to order: Chair Dickens called the meeting to order at 4:08 p.m. A quorum was present.
Approve the Agenda - Porubcansky moved, Moratzka seconded, to approve the agenda with flexibility.
Motion carried unanimously by roll call.
Approval of the Minute - Motion by Moratzka, seconded by Schlingerman, to approve the March 8,
2022 meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously.
Wayfinding Signs – Tabled discussion until Fischer can be present with additional information on
guidelines.
Community Wide Garage Sale – Moratzka reported that the Pilar group is interested, the Bone Lake
group not as interested, but that generally people seem to be interested in a city-wide garage sale.
Dickens said there is a state-wide site for posting sale information and it can be advertised on social
media to generate participation interest. Free notices can be published in the Country Messenger and
with the FL Chamber of Commerce. Links to the City website for information and registration through
the Tourism page would be included.
Registration would cost $10 for which participants would be provided a Sale sign for use in front of their
house, free advertising through the City website and the aforementioned avenues. A digital map would
also be available online through the City website. Sale signs may be enhanced with a dala horse sticker.
Part of the fee would go to the Scandia Elementary School Endowment fund for teacher projects.
Sale would be the same each year the first weekend in June. This year Thursday – Saturday, June 2 – 4th,
with a one-day pop-up sale opportunity on Saturday in the Community Center parking lot. Dickens will
reserve the space for June 4th on the City’s online reservation system. Participants would bring their own
tables and receive the same benefits of free advertising, directional signage, and be on the digital map.
Online registration would start 8 weeks prior to the sale on April 8th and close on May 13th. The digital
map would be posted the following week on May 20th. Porubcansky and Dickens will create the digital
map. Two levels of registration: one for Thursday through Saturday, and one for Saturday only at the
Community Center parking lot.
Dickens will draft an announcement of the sale and get it out to committee members to review so
people can start thinking about participating and advertising can be started. Local businesses and Elim
church will also be invited to participate. Dickens will also look at the cost of signage and getting dala
horse stickers printed to put on the signs.
