5. Seasonal Maintenance Worker Consent to Hire Consent Item Date of Meeting: 5/4/2022 For: Honorable Mayor and Council From: Charles Fischer – Director of Public Works Subject: Hire Seasonal Staff Background: Staff has previously hired a 67-day appointment part-time employee for the summer to aid in maintaining the City’s buildings and grounds. Council approved posting and recommending for hire one summer seasonal in March of this year. Public Works received only two available applications and interviewed both candidates . One candidate was available to work 24 hours per week and the other candidate available to work a full 40 hours per week on a flexible schedule. The previous Council consent for hire included an option to hire two summer seasonal positions. Public Works has amended the consent as the second recommended applicant has committed to a different employment opportunity. The remaining candidate, John Ziegelski, worked for the City last year and recommended to be hired again for the 2022 summer season. Issue: Should Council approve one single 40 Hour/week summer seasonal? Proposal Details: Public Works is recommending John Ziegelski to be hired for the summer season of 2022 for grounds maintenance and Public Works assignments, as a 40 hour per week 67-day appointment upon passing the required background checks. Fiscal Impact: The above wage is included in the 2022 Public Works budget for part-time summer employees. Options: 1.) Approve hiring John Ziegelski as a part time seasonal summer maintenance worker at $15.50/hour conditioned on passing the pre-employment background check. 2.) Do not hire John Ziegelski as a part-time summer employee. Recommendation: Option 1
