3. 01-03-11 Minutes CITY OF SCANDIA PARK AND RECREATION COMMITTEE Minutes of January 3,2011 Members Present: Alex Biideaux, Chair,Sally Swanson, Matt Rasmussen,Joan Benner,Tom Vogen,Mike Goeken Guests: Anne Hurlburt,City Administrator, Laurie Monson, City Recreation Coordinator 1. Call to Order 2. Review Agenda 3. Approve November and December 2010 minutes Reports: 4. Lilleskogen Project update-there is some interest from the Lions, Friends of the Parks and Scandia Elementary Foundation. Any specific proposals will go through the committee and the city council.The Elementary school was most interested in butterfly garden and amphitheater. It was discussed that a parking area should be the first priority.The weir will be working in the spring and the high water mark can be determined so trail layout can begin. 5. Winter Rec Programs-Skating classes are starting this week. The rec reational skating class is full with a waitlist, Hot Shot Kids has 10. There was discussion about adding a second rec class next year. Ga-ga (a dodgeball game from Israel,translation" hit-hit")I- Laurie met at Scandia Elementary with parents and PE teacher about the possibility of an octagonal pit for the dodgeball game gaga being placed in a park because they stated there is no room for it at the school. After discussion by the committee it was decided Laurie would get back to the group to let them know there is not room at the community center for this. Summer programs- Laurie is meeting with Lakamaga about summer programs. Plans include skateboard camp, cleat kids for younger group,geocaching, archery,tennis and Lakamaga gaga. No adult classes will be offered as they were cancelled for low/no participation last year. 6. City Council Meeting-no specific park report Project Discussions 7. Grant opportunity-Anne reports we are to receive a grant through the Washington County Department of Health for a bike trail plan. She has a call scheduled to discuss more information such as exact amount (around $3920), and when it starts.The plans at this point are for brochures and marking routes. MNDOT may have some funding for crosswalks etc. There are some $for nonmotorized transport through federal funding of the Safe Route to School program. There may be a public trail planning meeting at some point. 8. Park Signs—examples at www.americantrails.or� . Request for money to design and create uniform park signs will be in park budget proposal. Currently Hay Lake, Ball field and Wind In the Pines are listed and T-Ball field, Lilleskogen and S. ballfield need signs as well. Goose Lake and Log House Landing were also discussed.The Committee discussed the issue of naming the lighted ball field and will discuss further next meeting along with choosing signpost design. It � � was decided to have signs consistent with current city signs at the Community Center and the Fire Hall. 9. Vinterfest-details were discussed and finalized for the chili cook-off, snow-sculpture contest and other activities at Vinterfest.Tasks for planning and purchasing supplies were divided among members.
