3. 03-07-11 Minutes � City of Scandia Park and Recreation Committee March 7, 2011 Members Present: Matt Rasmussen-vice-chair,Joan Benner,Tom Vogen, Dan Lee, Mike White Members absent: Alex Bildeaux, chair Guests: Anne Hurlburt, Sally Swanson, City Council Rep,Tom Triplett, Friends of the Scandia Park, Laurie Monson, Park and Rec coordinator 1. Call to Order 2. Agenda reviewed. 3. Minutes of February meeting approved 4. New PRC members introduced. 5. Lilleskogen Project update: Friends of Scandia: interested in applying for grant for education- butterfly garden and amphitheater through Katherine B, Anderson foundation and Mary Rivers Foundation of Stillwater for boardwalk and handicap accessibility. Committee passed a motion to approve a preliminary application for these grants. Anne presented proposal for engineering services for constructing a parking lot at Lilleskogen Park. Cost would be$5,100. Motion was passed to request funds from $16,000 balance of park funds capitol budget at next City Council meeting. Tom T. requested several weeks advance notice for volunteers from the Friends. This will be brought up at next meeting. 6. City Council- no specific park information addressed 7. Summer Recreation Programs: Laurie reported about upcoming summer programs at Lakamaga. New program offerings include Comic Book camp, Little Tyke Archers, Skateboarding Camp and Geocaching. Laurie will plan to visit the Scandia Elementary carnival later this month to distribute brochures. Winter skating classes- hockey and skating went well with good enrollment. Next year there may be an open skating class for older skaters because there were more younger kids this year. Laurie also mentioned Lakamaga is interested in partnering with us to offer winter classes next year such as ice fishing, snowshoeing. 8. Trail Planning Grant: Monday March 28, 7 pm-work session to plan trails, invite Friends members and committee member to participate. Landscape architect and planner to help with this planning. Bring any information, maps for this. this year. 9. Wind in the Pines: property lines need to be marked. Options for posts were discussed in terms of number and type needed. Anne will check on ordering through company we used for trail markers. Tom V.would like to get started soon on marking as he has time now and will check at Winnicks for prices as the city has an account with them. Meeting adjourned.
