The agenda was amended to move Item 7, Lighted Ball Field, up to Item #4 on the agenda. The agenda was approved as amended. The March minutes were reviewed, and amended to remove item9. See above." The minutes were approved as amended. Lighted Ballfield (renaming) The committee would like to find a new name to put on a new park sign at the ballfield instead of just "Lighted Ballfield." Jim Lindberg and Greg Benson were at the meeting to talk about the history of the field and fast-pitch softball. One idea is to name it after a well-known player from the area, Wayne Erickson. Other ideas are to make it more generic or possibly using some kind of Swedish name to reflect the heritage of the area. Other ideas discussed were to hold a naming contest and to check around with other cities for naming ideas. Some felt it was important to have"City" in the name so people will feel ownership. Next steps: Sally and Matt will do some research on the history of the field and also talk with Wayne Erickson's daughters. Lighted Ball Field (Scout Project) Kyle McCleary is working on his Eagle Scout Award and would like to make a new scoreboard and put a screen around the porta-potties for his project. He showed us some sign material that he got a price on, but it was determined that this material would dent if hit by foul balls. Kyle will talk with the manufacturer more about this and also get pricing on marine-grade plywood. The committee approved his basic concept and he will go to the City Council meeting on 4/19 for their approval. He will be at the PRC meeting in May with more project details and pricing. Lilleskogen Update Administrator Anne Hurlburt reported that the city has signed an agreement with SRF to design the parking lot. The plans will include alternatives of various paving materials Summer Recreation Programs Recreation Coordinator Laurie Monson reported that the Summer Rec Brochure has been printed and sent to Scandia residents. The brochure was also approved by Forest Lake Community Ed to send home with Scandia Elementary students. Laurie dropped these off last Friday 4/1. Laurie also handed out about 100 brochures at the Scandia Elementary School Carnival on 3/26. A press release will be sent out this week to let people know registrations are open and that the info is also up on the City website. Lakamaga has approved the contract for 2011 and it will go to the City Council for approval on 4/19. We have also hired a tennis instructor and instructors for the Skateboard Camp. Trail Planning Meeting Update Hurlburt reported that 20+ people attended the meeting on 3/28 and there was a lot of good feedback and discussion on walking, biking and horse trails. Sherri will do a preliminary plan and another public meeting will be scheduled for the end of April. The plan needs to be done by the end of]une. Tom V. will check on trail easements. Wind in the Pines(property lines) The Committee talked about types of stakes we need for"park boundary"signs— 7 foot t-posts with U- bolt either 21b or 1.12 Ib depending on pricing. The surveyors have put in 28 stakes. We will need about 30-34 signs to start with. The State has the natural area on the north side marked differently then we do. Tom will talk to DNR about this. Laurie will do some research on sign posts and also getting some genericpark boundary"signs. Volunteer Dates The Committee discussed setting up volunteer dates in advance so we can get the word out ahead of time and get more people to show up. The committee decided on the 2"d Wednesday (5:00 pm to dusk) and 4th Saturday (9:00 am to Noon) of every month, starting Saturday, April 23 with Buckthorn removal at Lilleskogen Park. It was also decided to take the month of July off. This information will also go up on the City website. Annual Timeline/Goals Sally Swanson handed out an annual timeline of events to help with planning and goal setting for the year. This will be on the May agenda. The meeting adjourned at 8:38 p.m.
