August 1, 2011
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Matt Rasmussen at 7:05 p.m.
Members Present: Matt Rasmussen (Vice-Chair),Tom Vogen, Mike White, Dan Lee
Members Absent: Alex Bildeaux (Chair)
Guests: Anne Hurlburt (City Administrator), Sally Swanson (City Council Rep), Laurie Monson
(Recreation Coordinator)

6. City Council Meeting
a. Alex was not at the last city council meeting so nothing to report
7. Lilleskogen Project Update
a. Next step is clearing trees to make room for new parking lot. Alex said he would work
on this but Anne has been unable to get a hold of him and set a date. Dan will also try
and call Alex.
b. We also need to make contact with other groups who may be willing to donate labor
and/or materials to build the parking lot
c. Watershed District is interested in water quality related improvements and the
Conservation District offered to have their staff do engineering calculations for water
quality improvements (like a rain garden) so we wouldn't have to hire engineers to do
more work on that
d. Dan also suggested we label the buckthorn for volunteer days— possibly with spray paint
8. Summer Recreation Programs
a. So far Laurie has cancelled one tennis session. She will probably have to cancel
geocaching as well since no one has signed up for any of the sessions.
b. A press release was sent out for Art Adventure to try and get more kids signed up.
9. Farmers Market
a. Sally ran 2 ads in the paper for the market
b. 11 vendors have signed up so far and Laurie talked to a few more who were interested in
signing up
c. Sally has supplies to make a sign to put up at the 4-way stop at 97
d. Laurie sent out a press release that was picked up by the Pioneer Press, Star Tribune,
Forest Lake Times and Country Messenger
e. Laurie talked to Pam Arnold who is a graphic designer. She is interested in volunteering
her time to work on branding and a logo for the market.
10. Hay Lake Park/Eagle Scout Projects
a. Dan will contact Tom Triplett regarding the Eagle Scout bridge project. The project has
been presented to the Lion's and they are backing it.
11. Lighted Ball field Project Update
a. Sally presented a sign design for the ball field sign. It will match the other signs in the
city. It was decided to change the name to Wayne Erickson Memorial Ball Park(instead
of Ball Field) and also add City of Scandia. The sign will be a dark green color.
b. Initially the sign will be put up with 6x6 posts and eventually will have brick pillars like
the other city signs.
c. Sally will see if she can get her brother-in-law to do the brick work.
d. Mike made a motion to order the sign with noted changes so we have it in time for Taco
Daze. Matt seconded.
12. Volunteer Dates and Locations
a. August dates will be working at Lilleskogen
b. September and October dates can be used to put up park boundary signs/posts
13. Taco Daze/Dodgeball Tournament
a. Laurie ordered dodgeballs for the tournament.
b. Matt has shirts on order.
c. Laurie will check on whistles and stopwatches.
d. We have mesh vests for refs to wear.
e. Sally and Matt will work on getting refs for the tournament.
14. Additions to the Agenda
a. Mike would like Anne to send a letter to Joan Benner thanking her for serving on the PRC
