5.b. Staff Report-PW
Staff Report
Date of Meeting: 6/6/2022
For: PRC
From: Charles Fischer – Director of Public Works
Subject: Staff Report
Lilleskogen/Bone Lake:
Public Works has been in conversation with Helke Tree Service and they will be providing wood chips to
spread on the trails. Currently, Public Works has requested four loads to be delivered to the Public Works
Facility where they can be stored until needed at either site. Helke Tree Service can be contacted for more
chips at a later date if more are needed.
Wind in the Pines:
Public Works accessed the path at Wind in the Pines for downed trees or other safety issues relating to the
trail. There are two trees that have fallen across the path but not impeding access. Also, during inspection
over 50 timber spikes(rebar) were pounded down in the multiple stairways within the trail system.
Park Clean Up Day:
Public Works has provided a timeframe below which will work for Public Works staff to assist in cutting fallen
tree material in Lilleskogen Park.
If you would like to accomplish the work soon, we could have the debris cut the week of June 20th so that a
volunteer effort could happen the weekend of June 25th.
The next available window of opportunity for cutting the downed tree debris would then be between July 18th
and August 26th. If a weekday is chosen for moving the debris into piles Mon-Wed would be preferable so we
could plan to have the chipping done by the following weekend.
Landscape Beds:
Public Works is looking for volunteers to assist with landscape bed clean up and mulching. With only one
seasonal this year, the addition of field rentals and aggressive turf growth the landscape beds are in need of
more attention. Public Works reached out to the Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails but they have declined
the opportunity.
