5.e County tax forfeited property Staff Report Date of Meeting: May 17, 2016 To: City Council From: Neil Soltis, Administrator Re: Tax forfeited lands Background: Washington County has identified a parcel of tax forfeited land adjacent to the Big Marine Park Reserve that they would like to incorporate into the park; however, there is no record of whether the City has an interest in the property. The property has no access from a public right - of-way. Issue: Should the City express an interest in the property Details / Discussion: The parcel was forfeited in 1938 for non-payment of taxes and the property tax records show this parcel as tax forfeited. Due to its location the County is seeking to combine the parcel into the park reserve; however, the City retains the option to take ownership of tax forfeited lands. Options: 1. Express an interest in taking ownership of the parcel 2. Inform the County that the City has no interest in the property. Recommendation: Option 2 – without access via a public right-of-way the City is unable to access or utilize the property. This parcel forfeited in May of 1938 for non-payment of property taxes. I have been reviewing our files here and I don’t see any comments from the City stating they have no interest in the parcel. I just want to verify the City has no interest so we can move forward with special legislation. Let me know if you have any questions.
