Scandia Tourism Committee
Minutes
May 24, 2022 – 5:00 p.m.
Meeting at Community Center, Zoom and Boxcast.com
Members in Attendance: Sue Dickens, Lynne Moratzka, Sarah Porubcansky and Lisa
Schlingerman. Mayor Christine Maefsky via Zoom.
Staff in attendance: Ken Cammilleri (City Administrator) and Brenda “Bee” Stignani (Office
Assistant via Zoom).
Call to Order –Chair Dickens called the meeting to order at 5:01 p.m., a quorum is present.
Approve the Agenda – Porubcansky moved, Moratzka seconded, to approve the agenda
with Flexibility. Motion carried unanimously.
Approve the Minutes – Moratzka moved, Schlingerman seconded, to approve the April 26,
2022 minutes. Motion carried unanimously.
Wayfinding Signs Update –
Fischer provided a written report. Cammilleri provided additional guidance and discussion
concluded an interest of the committee to recommend to Council consideration of including
budgeting in 2023 to hire a consultant to develop the Master Plan required by MnDOT. This
process will also gather the necessary data regarding anticipated costs with the Wayfinding Signs
recommendation. Dickens will prepare a report for Council for the June meeting.
Motion by Schlingerman, seconded by Porubcansky, for Dickens to prepare a report,
requesting Council consider including funds in 2023 budget to hire a consultant to develop
Scandia’s Master Sign Plan. Motion carried unanimously.
City Wide Garage Sale Update –
• 20 Registrations received, one withdrew and 2 arrived after the registration deadline.
• Moratzka will be at the Community Center on Saturday, June 4th at 9 a.m. Staff will place
the tent canopy, a table and chairs for her use in the Warming House.
• Porubcansky will assist staff for instructions on the City’s website for use of the map and
notation that the Community Center sales are on Saturday only. Six registrations have been
received, however, if any extra sellers show up, they will be welcomed.
• Announcements have been placed in various outlets; Dickens will produce an additional
flyer to ask local businesses to post. Staff will create a Facebook event.
• Porubcansky will work with staff to develop a simple survey for registered participants post
event.
Upcoming Events –
• Correction: Historical Walking Tour with the Scandia Heritage Alliance is June 11th
• Correction: Washington County’s Historical Society is hosting their fundraiser Beer Tasting
Event on June 18th

Dickens highlighted correcting the information for the Upcoming Events agenda item and noted
future events are forthcoming for July-December.
Facebook Video Showcase –
Suggestion to have businesses post a few times each month about what is new or different in their
business. Discussion concluded to revisit in the future how it would look on the Visit Scandia page
of the city’s website, something leading up to Small Business Saturday in November or work for a
more organic community Facebook community group for the EDA to use.
Future Meetings – Time Change
Group consensus to change the monthly meeting to change to beginning at 5 p.m.,
Future Steps –
Dickens asked for clarification the Chair’s responsibility in reporting to Council monthly.
Adjournment –Motion by Schlingerman, seconded by Moratzka, to adjourn the meeting.
Motion carried unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 5:46 p.m.
