8.f Public Works April Activity Report April Activity Report Date of Meeting: May 17, 2016 To: City Council From: Dave Williams, Public Works Re: Activity Report Beginning of the month inspections for OSHA were completed on Monday, April 4 th. This involves all of the municipalities. During this period of time, monthly water meter readings are taken to keep record of gallons used. Load tests on lift stations and drain field pumps are performed. DMR reports were completed. We performed daily meter reading on all the lift stations pumps. This gives us an idea of performance from the pumps. As stated in last month’s activity report, Public Works put gravel in identified problem street areas. The streets were Old Marine Trail, Oak Hill, and Meadowbrook. This month we periodically used the skid loader and smoothed the areas over after vehicle traffic wear. The crew worked on removing the plow and sander equipment from all trucks. The snow blower was detached from the John Deere and the mower was put on. The sander and hopper were removed from the 550 flatbed. All equipment was serviced, cleaned and stored. The box used for tree trimming was removed from the 1-ton and placed in strorage, along with the plow blades from the light-duty trucks. The crew repaired the wood and some metal on the skateboard equipment. The equipment was then placed in the skateboard park/ hockey rink. The city borrowed a disc attachment from the City of Hugo. This equipment is attached to the tractor and pulls material in from the side of the gravel road. This helps with the flow of rainwater into the ditch, as well as reclaims gravel lost from traffic use. A few small jobs we did during the month was:  Picked up debris from Lillyskogen  Put seed and bedding down at the corner of Melanie and Meadowbrook where the new culvert was placed  Painting for handicap walk ramps and curbs at City Hall parking lot  Put out trash containers at select parks  Cleared overgrowth of branches and vines at lighted ball fie ld so the fence could be repaired from an automobile accident  Replaced bulbs on street lights  Put dock in City’s Public Access on Goose Lake  Spent a day in Hinckley for equipment training  Saw was rented to cut bituminous potholes to square off edges  Crew prepared roads for re-patching. One of the crew brought the bench back to the shop from the corner of Olinda and Oak hill to repair it. We poured a small concrete pad next to the sidewalk and mounted the bench to the new pad Public works spent a couple of days cleaning the yard around public works/fire station. We hauled a load to the junk yard along with a load of steel to the recycling center . My objective was to get some organization after the winter months April was a month when Public Works began to address road construction. This will remain a main objective for the foreseeable future. Thank you Dave Williams, Public Works Director
