Re: 205th Street/ Log House Landing
At the September 12 meeting, I promised to provide the Committee with some background information on previous discussions about the road leading to the Log House/ Copas landing on the
St. Croix River.
The document attached is a report prepared in 2007 by the city engineer concerning 2 streets that were proposed as part of a paving project. After reviewing this information,
the City Council decided not to pave any part of 205th Street. (Only the portion of 197th Street above the bluff was paved.)
Since then, the City has discussed both of these streets
informally with the Carnelian Marine St. Croix Watershed District (CMSCWD) and the Washington Conservation District (WCD.) These agencies have been particularly concerned with a major
erosion problem still occurring down the bluff near 197th Street. The most recent discussion among staff occurred this summer. The District may make a proposal for some improvements,
which may or may not require city participation.
205th Street has not been a priority for either agency. The WCD was not supportive of the 2007 engineer’s plan, and their staff suggested
a different approach that would divide the drainage into smaller areas and intercept it with small diversion structures. The project has since been on the “back burner” for all of the
agencies involved.
