5.b)1) Staff Report-Park Funding Staff Report Date of Meeting: October 1, 2012 To: Parks and Recreation Committee From: Kristina Handt, City Administrator Re: Park Funding Agenda Item #: 5. Background: At the September meeting, the Parks and Recreation Committee made a motion to request funding in the 2013 budget for the grubbing of Lilleskogen Park. A presentation was made to the City Council on September 18th and some questions arose as to how much park funding was available. There was also some confusion as to how much funding the Parks and Recreation Committee was requesting. Financial Info: The current balance of the Park Capital Improvement Fund is $12,936.02. The only source of revenue for this fund has been park dedication fees. No new revenue is projected. The $4,000 that has been budgeted from that account for this year is included in the total. An additional $5,000 has been budgeted to be spent from the Park Capital Improvement Fund in 2013 as a cash contribution to Lilleskogen Park with the remaining funds coming from grants and/or donations. Therefore, if the funds budgeted in 2012 and 2013 were spent, the Park Capital Improvement Fund would have a projected balance of $4,136. If the Parks and Recreation Committee and the City Council would like to accept the Prairie restoration quote of $14,000, additional funds of approximately $1,100 would need to be identified and the Park Capital Improvement Fund would be depleted. The Parks and Recreation Committee needs to clearly state how much funding they are requesting and if that is in addition to the funds already budgeted from the Park Capital Improvement Fund.
