Greetings Friends members. At our most recent board meeting, the following were identified as
our priorities for 2010. We will be working dosely with our city partners on these projects. If any
of you have a particular interest in working on any of these, please email Tom at
Tm.Triplett@comcast.ae#Thanks!
i. Provide fundraising assistance to the city and its Parks and Rec Committee (PRC) to support
park and trail development.
2. Promote completion of the Gateway Trail through Scandia (working with the Gateway Trail
Assn, the state Parks and Trails Council, the PRC and DNR)
3. Working with the PRC, identify and help develop connector bike and horse trails to the Gateway
using existing city parks and county/city roads wherever appropriate.
4. Solicit volunteers for city parks and trails projects of the PRC.
5. Work with the city, the PRC, the Scandia Marine Lions, and Washington County Historical
Society to develop Hay Lake Park property and its connection to the Hay Lake Museum and
Schoolhouse.
6. Grow the membership of the Friends through solicitations, fundraisers, and the website.
Good news. Upon the recommendation of the Friends and the PRC, our City Council on April 20
unanimousy adopted a resolution urging DNR to expedite Gateway Trial construction through
Scandia. Thank you City Council members! More on the Gateway expansion in future emails.
It is time to renew our memberships. Friends board members Rich Burton and Michele McNulty will
be contacting all of us soon.
Thanks for your continuing support of parks and trails in our beautiful city
