Scandia City Council members:
We respectfully request that the city close the pedestrian easement from Oren Road to Goose
Lake until the proper improvements are made for safe and legal passage.
The wetlands, overgrowth and lack of clear permanent boundaries need to be addressed for
proper use by pedestrians. Trespassing on our property will not be tolerated due to risk of injury
and potential liability. We understand the complexity involved with use of wetlands in particular,
and expect the city of Scandia to comply with all regulations.
Another possible idea that Ken Cammilleri mentioned since the our petition to vacate was
rejected: rerouting the pedestrian easement westerly along our property’s north border, then drop
south along the western side of our property (previously Swenson property). This would
eliminate the wetland issues and provide a safer pedestrian route ending at the Goose Lake public
access where there is a public dock. We would have fewer concerns with safety for everyone at
this location.
The key reason we would consider the relocation of the pedestrian easement is we would then be
able to expand our tree farm nursery on the land that we purchased from Bruce and Janet
Swenson.
Thank you,
Jim and Peg Simpson
