7.a Frontier Notice to apply for MN Norder to Border Program 7-12-20221 Kenneth Cammilleri From: Bohler, Scott <Scott.Bohler@FTR.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 12, 2022 10:00 AM To: 'Robert Wilmers' <robert.wilmers@icloud.com>; marshall.smith@gmail.com; john@carneyforensics.com Subject: Frontier Communications - application to MN Border to Border broadband deployment program Bob, Marshall, John - Hello, I am with Frontier Communications and we have spoken in the past regarding broadband deployment in Scandia. As you may have heard, the State has a Border to Border broadband grant program to help fund the deployment of new broadband facilities, with an application deadline for the program of August 4. Frontier is evaluating possible projects to submit to that program. The projects would construct new fiber optic cable facilities to provide broadband service, at speeds up to 2 Gig, symmetrical (both download and upload). One of the potential projects being considered would impact areas in our Scandia exchange. While we have not yet finalized our planning and intentions regarding which projects to submit to the Border to Border program, I did want to contact you regarding a possible project application for Scandia. I will plan to follow up with you later this month as our final decisions are made regarding which projects to submit to the program. The State has a specific set of criteria that it uses to evaluate, rank, and select applications for funding. One of those criteria is evidence of local, or municipal, support for the application. If we do submit an application to the program for Scandia, it would be helpful if the local parties like the Internet Action Committee could offer support for the application, in some fashion. Items such as a letter of support would be useful. I appreciate your consideration of this matter and will contact you again when we have more concrete plans to share. Please contact me with any questions or issues to discuss.
