SUBJECT: Summary of recent actions by the City Council relating to the Planning
Commission
MEETING DATE: October 4, 2022
BACKGROUND
This memo is meant to provide a brief summary of actions taken by the City Council on items previously
reviewed by the Planning Commission. Planning and zoning requests (such as variances, conditional use
permits, code amendments, etc.) start with review and recommendations made by the Planning
Commission, and then are approved or denied by the City Council.
RECENT ITEMS
Variances
Variances to replace an existing cabin with a new cabin, located at 16963 197th St N.
o The Planning Commission recommended approval of the request at the September 6th
Planning Commission meeting
o This request was approved by the City Council on September 20th, with the conditions
recommended by the Commission
Development Code Update
Adopting the new Unified Development Code, to replace the current Development Code
o The Council approved adopting the new Code, and will adopt a new zoning map to
accompany the new code at an upcoming council meeting.
o New development and applications will have to adhere to the new code once a summary
is officially published in the city’s newspaper (Country Messenger) on October 12th, per
the resolution passed by the City Council.
