5.a 2023.01.12 Feb 2023 Chair report PRC Chair report —for Feb 6, 2023 Conversation with Tom Vogen, Scandia Parks and Trails I received a call from Tom Vogen of the Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails. He was describing to me some of the things that they were doing over at the two Orwell properties. He described some of the work that they were doing for invasive removal on the east side of Orwell, including buckthorn and Amur Maple removal. He did ask about the plan for the West side property. I explained the three requirements were for a sign, a picnic table, and a trail around the property. We need to do that in 2023. Anything else is still pending and TBD. He explained that the friends have some money to spend and that they could look for some grants to do some other work on The West side property. Tom focused on native plants, commented that the red pines planted there aren't native and would propose removing some of those. Possibly a controlled burn too. Since they haven't done an update to the parks committee for a while, I suggested that they plan to give us an update and talk about what they might want to do at the Orwell parks and attend our March PRC meeting. Lisa Phillipi, chairperson of the Friends, also followed up via email. She and Karen Schik will attend the March meeting. Lilleskogen walks I put up the Vinterfest button contest items on January 7. Several stands need some fixing up. This was reported to PW. The path doesn't get a lot of human activity during the winter. Deer appear to be the more common visitors. Misc items - While distributing the Vinterfest buttons, Sue Dickens, of Dickens Pickens, asked if the PRC wanted to coordinate efforts and be part of the planning for the city-wide garage sale in the spring. Respectfully submitted, Terry Gorham PRC Chair
