5.b PW Report Staff Report Date of Meeting: 4/03/2023 For: PRC From: Charles Fischer – Director of Public Works Subject: Staff Report Seasonal Staffing Recently Public Works was approved to hire two seasonal staff for the summer season. With the addition of one staff member Public Works plans to expand the service provided to the Parks and Grounds maintenance. The posting has been advertised on many platforms with the anticipation of receiving multiple applicants. The two main roles are turf/ballfield maintenance and horticulture/landscape maintenance. The goal for the landscape maintenance this year will be to improve the beds with additional mulch and replacing plant material which has become overgrown or pulled due to poor health. If any committee members know of anyone interested encourage them to apply either through the City webpage or in person. If any further information is requested, I am happy to respond to anyone interested. Playground Project With the extended cold weather and much snow pack remaining to melt the playground equipment installation may be pushed out further than May. The aim is to continue planning for a May installation if weather and ground conditions are favorable. Garbage and Recycling New containers have been delivered to replace the current receptacles in the Parks. The new containers will be placed at the Tennis/Pickleball courts, new playground, Warming House, Lilleskogen and Hay Lake. Each of the listed locations will now have both garbage and recycling options. Public Works staff will service these locations throughout the year. Other parks will remain Carry In/Carry Out unless noticeable littering is evident and a receptable is required. Events at any location will still require additional temporary containers as the new containers are for daily use or able to handle small gatherings.
