Staff Report-hiring seasonal workers Staff Report Date of Meeting: May 3, 2023 To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Charles Fischer – Director of Public Works Re: Hiring Seasonal Maintenance Worker Background: The City has advertised for two Seasonal Parks Maintenance Workers to maintain City facilities and grounds with various other duties as assigned at a pay range of $15.00 to $17.50 per hour. An application has been received which qualifies for the hiring process as advertised: • Christina Mazzucco, who has worked in this position for many seasons through 2021 Based on the labor agreement with the Union, non-student part-time employees can be employed for up to 67 days without becoming a member of the Union. This would provide for 13 weeks of employment for Ms. Mazzucco, who indicated that she can begin the position as soon as possible. Issue: Should the City hire Christina Mazzucco to fill one of two the Seasonal Park Grounds Maintenance Worker positions? Options: 1) Approve the hiring of Christina Mazzucco for one of two open positions at $17.50/hour for the Seasonal Park Grounds Maintenance Position. 2) Take no action on the request. Recommendation: Option 1
