Re: Hiring of Seasonal Maintenance Worker for Public Works
Agenda Item #: S.e)
Background:
At the March Council meeting, staff was authorized to advertise and interview for the Seasonal
Maintenance Worker position in the Public Works Department. Five applications were received
and interviews conducted the first week in May.
Issue:
Who should the Council hire for the Seasonal Maintenance Worker position?
Proposal Details:
Staff is recommending Justin Bergerson be hired as the Seasonal Maintenance Worker at a rate
of$10.20/hour. Justin held the position with the City last year. The proposed pay rate is
consistent with the 2% increase given most other seasonal employees.
Fiscal Impact:
The 2013 pay rate for the position was set at $10.20 to $12.25 per hour. The budget is sufficient
to cover about 14 work weeks at an average of 3 days per week. The work schedule would vary
based upon the jobs to be performed, and somewhat upon the weather.
Options:
1) Approve hiring Justin Bergerson at $10.20/hour for the Seasonal Maintenance Position
2) Approve hiring Justin Bergerson at a different rate of pay for the Seasonal Maintenance
Position.
3) Approve hiring another applicant for the Seasonal Maintenance Position.
Recommendation:
Option 1.
