Re: Staff Report Art in Action Summer Program
Festival Theatre is interested in hosting two Art in Action summer camps for students age 7-13
in the community center in 2024. Kids create an original short play – prepare, learn, and
collaborate all week long – culminating on Friday with their performance for a live audience of
family and friends! Each week the camp would be 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Festival Theatre handles all aspects of registration and camp operations; the City of Scandia
promotes the camps and provides the space. The fee is $75 per camper, where 100% is retained
by Festival Theatre.
Available dates to host Art in Action are:
July 8- 12
July 15-19
July 22-26
July 29-August 2
August 19-23

As the community center would not be available every day during the weeks of July 8 or July

29, staff recommends requesting July 15-19 and August 19-23 as the two weeks in order to
choose the earliest and the latest possible dates for the most flexibility for families who would
consider both weeks. Festival Theatre facilitators commented to Scandia staff in the second
week that most students had already completed one week of camp earlier in the summer,
presumably in Scandia. But the camp is offered in two other locations.
