Message from the Mayor
Greetings following the winter that wasn't. As we get through the warmest AA DI�T7�T A�
_ winter I can remember and head into a very dry spring, please try to support SCAN
our farmers as best you can. The Scandia Farmers Market will open with
plant sales on May 8" and May 15", 3:30 - 6:30 p.m., and the regular season
running from June 12" to September 181h, 3:30 - 6:30 p.m.
> The new playground at the community center is a big hit. Thanks to the Scandia Parks and Recreation
Committee and our Public Works Department for making it happen.
Gammelgarden Museum will host a retirement celebration for Lynne and Jim Moratzka on April 28'" at 4:00
p.m. Gammelgarden opens for the season on May 41h from 10:00 - 4:00. Be sure to check out their website calendar for craft
classes offered as well as Swedish language classes and more.
Once again members of Scandia's Sister City initiative will be guests of our sister city Mellerud, Sweden in June. Travelers will
stay with host families while in Mellerud. Scandia's committee plans to invite a group from Mellerud to Scandia around the time of
Taco Daze, with Scandia families hosting the visitors. If you might be interested in hosting, please contact Patti Ray.
Scandia Heritage Alliance will host a number of events this summer and fall. On Tuesday April 23rtl from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. there will
be a talk held at the Scandia Creamery on reconstructing Scandia's historic Water Tower Barn, on Wednesday June 19'h there will
be a kayaking and hiking adventure to historic Knapp's Cave on the St. Croix River, and on Saturday, October 121h there will be a
historic homes tour from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. More information can be found on the Scandia Heritage Alliance website.

Recycle News
-Waste & Recycling Services —In January of this year, the
City signed a contract with Waste Management to provide
waste and recycling services. For information about 2024

- Clean -Up Week- City -Wide Clean-up Week is scheduled
for Saturday, April 27 through Saturday, May 4, at SRC, Inc.
Waste and Recycle site in Wyoming, MN. Residents may drop
off rubbish items not taken by their regular trash hauler such
as appliances, tires, furniture, scrap metal and wood at the
SRC facility located at 6320 East Viking Boulevard, Wyoming,
MN. Discounted prices and other information is located at

- Mattress Clean-up Coming in early May—Scandia is
collaborating with Ramsey/ Washington County Recycling
and Energy to offer free mattress and box spring recycling
collection by Second Chance Recycling. Curbside collection
is scheduled for Monday, May 61", Tuesday, May 71", and
Wednesday, May 81". Residents will be able to place
mattresses, box springs and crib mattresses out for collection
at no cost. Stay tuned to the City's website and Facebook page

City Office Filings Open July 30th
2024 Assessments
Washington County has released the 2024 assessment
information for the City of Scandia. The Market value of all
taxable properties in Scandia decreased by 1.7% from the
2023 assessment. The breakdown of Market Value change is as
follows: 76 parcels decreased 35-10%, 570 parcels decreased
9-0%, 758 parcels increased 0-5%, and 224 parcels increased 6
-13%. If you have questions, you are encouraged to contact

Scandia will elect a Mayor and two City Council Members at the
November 51" general election. The Mayor serves a two-year
term, and Council Members serve four-year terms. The terms of
Mayor Maefsky and Council Members Benson and Kronmiller end
in 2024.
Filing opens Tuesday, July 30, 2024 and ends on Tuesday,
August 13, 2024. Office hours for filing at City Hall are 9:00am to
4:00pm Monday through Friday, and will be open until 5:00pm on

Spring Burning Restrictions
The DNR has announced spring burning restrictions are in effect
until further notice. Burning permits for brush or yard waste are
restricted. 3'x 3' recreational campfires are allowed. For more

Liten Park, Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails secured a
$19,100 CRP grant from the Outdoor Heritage Fund; $2,500
from the Parks and Trails Council of MN; and $1,000 from
Scandia-Marine Lions. Work will begin this spring and
continue through June 2027.
- Art in Action! Kids camp— These weeklong summer
theatre camps with St. Croix Festival Theatre are a fun way to
make friends, have an introduction into theatre making, and
get creative. Kids create, rehearse, and perform in an original
play and explore acting and designing with exciting exercises
and games working their voice, body, and imagination!
