Re: Accessory Dwelling Unit Update
Background:
After our fall meetings with businesses the EDA had a joint meeting with the Planning
Commission and Met Council rep. One of the issues to help address housing needs was to
expand our accessory dwellings. The Planning Commission worked on language for the last
couple months and held a public hearing on April 7th.
Informational Only:
The public hearing was one of the better attended meetings. About a half dozen people spoke in
favor of the ordinance change and there were no comments against it. The Planning Commission
had a few minor tweaks and questions about some of the process provisions that will be reviewed
by the City Attorney. They will take the issue up again at their May meeting. The City Council
will also review the proposal at their may work session. At this point in time, things seem to be
on track for adoption in early summer.
