Midcontinent Service Expansion:
I attended the Forest Lake Cable Commission meeting in June in which Midcontinent representatives
presented their plans for build out into the communities. The only new area listed for Scandia was
Wildwood Acres and that was still pending for 2016. The corporate offices have not confirmed it
yet. I asked if getting neighborhood commitments would help and they thought it would. A meeting
with Midco and members of the Wildwood Acre Homeowners Association is planned for Thursday,
August 6th at 6:30pm.
Planning Commission update on Signage Issues:
The Planning Commission discussed the EDA’s recommended changes to the sign ordinance and
Scandia Architectural Guidelines at their July 7th meeting. They were generally supportive of the
changes related to community events but hesitant to expand options for for-profit businesses
(banners, lighting changes, animated signs, etc.) unless they were promoting an event in the
community such as the Farmers Market or Meisters’ car show type events. Sue Rodjso, who helped
develop the guidelines, was present and had concerns about the yellow portable sign the Lions use
and felt most strongly about not changing any of the lighting standards. They will discuss this again
at their August 4th meeting and also look at offsite signage examples in other communities.
Leave/Resignation:
As I mentioned last month, I will be on maternity leave in Sept and Oct. The board may want to
discuss whether or not they will meet during these times. Also, I have resigned my position effective
Nov. 6th. It is not known at this time when a new administrator will be on board. The board should
consider electing a member to the secretary and assistant treasurer positions at the August meeting.
