SUBJECT: Summary of recent actions by the City Council relating to the Planning
Commission

BACKGROUND
In early 2020, members expressed a desire to get a summary on actions taken by the City Council on
items reviewed by the Planning Commission. Planning and Zoning requests (such as variances, code
amendments, etc.) start with review and recommendations made by the Planning Commiss ion, and then
are approved or denied by the City Council.
RECENT ITEMS
Variances
Three variance requests were reviewed by the Council at their June 15th meeting:
Variance request by Austin Adams for a new septic system within required setbacks
o This request was approved by the City Council
o The Planning Commission recommended approval of the request at the June 1st Planning
Commission meeting
Variance request by Dan Potter to construct stairs and an addition onto an existing deck within
the lake and east side setbacks
o This request was denied by the City Council
o The Planning Commission recommended approval of the request at the June 1st Planning
Commission meeting
Variance request by Forrest Melcher to construct a detached accessory structure exceeding
zoning requirements
o The City Council approved the request for the location, but did not grant the request for
the proposed size/footprint of the structure
o The Planning Commission recommended the approval of the location, but not the size
requested at the June 1st Planning Commission meeting
